Finding Lanky Manton

Lanky Manton.jpg

Jim Poulter’s family were early settlers in the Middle Yarra region of Melbourne in 1840. He grew up hearing many tales of frontier times and the friendships his forebears had formed with the local Kulin people. Jim’s maternal great-grandfather, Tom Chivers, had maintained one particular friendship for over 80 years, and it had only ended when Coranderrk was closed down in 1924. The person’s name had never been handed down and after decades of searching fruitlessly, Jim was able to finally discover the identity of this legendary figure. Consequently, this is the story of Finding Lanky Manton.
